BaZi compatibility places two Four Pillars charts side by side to examine how their symbolic structures interact. It cannot measure love, safety, or commitment, and a percentage score often hides the method choices that produced it.

Build both charts with the same calculation conventions

Verify each local birth record, city, historical offset, solar-term boundary, day-change rule, and solar-time setting. If an Hour Pillar is uncertain, preserve candidates and mark which compatibility claims depend on that column.

Use the same software conventions for both people. Comparing one chart calculated by civil midnight with another using an early Zi-hour day change introduces a hidden asymmetry before any symbolic relationship is examined.

Read each natal structure before combining them

Identify each Day Master, Month Branch, seasonal strength, roots, useful flows under the chosen method, Ten God distribution, and major branch interactions. A feature that supports one chart can overload another, so “Person A has what Person B lacks” is not enough.

Keep individual agency visible. A chart with a strong Output pattern does not prove communication skill, and a Power pattern does not prove control. Compare the symbolic hypothesis with how each person actually behaves under stress and responsibility.

Reading rule

Keep calculated values, lineage rules, and context-dependent interpretation in separate layers.

Compare Day Masters and Day Branches without reducing them to fate

Day Master element relationships can frame how initiative, support, control, and exchange might be experienced. The Day Branch is often called the Spouse Palace, so cross-chart combinations or clashes involving it receive attention in many methods.

A combination is not automatic harmony and a clash is not automatic separation. Check season, roots, other combinations, which chart owns each branch, and whether the contact repeats elsewhere before turning the relationship name into a discussion topic.

Trace Five Element and Ten God exchange in both directions

The same incoming element can be Resource for one person and Output for the other. Write the relationship from A to B and from B to A separately, then identify areas where one person may feel supported, drained, directed, or invited to express more.

Avoid gender-essentialist shortcuts that assign Wealth or Power to fixed spouse roles. Contemporary relationships distribute money, care, authority, and work in many ways; the couple’s agreements are more informative than an inherited label.

Separate natal compatibility from timing and observable behavior

A Luck Pillar or annual branch can temporarily activate a cross-chart combination or clash. Label that time layer and avoid treating a difficult year as permanent incompatibility or a supportive year as proof that conflicts are solved.

Replace the final score with three lists: reliable points of support, areas requiring negotiation, and unknowns caused by missing data or method variation. Then test them against communication, repair, consent, finances, family boundaries, and shared plans.

Worked example: two Day Branches in opposition

Suppose one chart has Mao in the Day Branch and the other has You. Record the clash, then inspect season, hidden stems, each Day Master, supporting combinations, natal repetition, and the current Luck Pillars rather than predicting a breakup.

The practical question might concern different routines or approaches to criticism. If the pair has respectful repair habits, the symbolic tension may simply name an area requiring coordination; if there is coercion, real safety steps matter regardless of favorable chart contacts.

Compatibility cannot certify a relationship or excuse harm

BaZi matching is a traditional symbolic comparison, not a validated test of marital success, abuse risk, sexual consent, or honesty. No favorable branch combination should override observable warning signs.

Use behavior, shared values, financial facts, and professional counseling or legal support where appropriate. A chart may prompt conversation, but the people involved retain the authority to choose, renegotiate, or leave.
